John Forman - The Essentials of Trading author

The following inquiry came in today:

I have no knowledge nor experience on forex trading but would like to learn how. I know there are thousands (maybe more) free e-books on forex out there. But learning “piece by piece” like that really puzzles me. I am more into knowing a big picture first before going into details kind of learner. In addition, I found that “most” of those e-books teach me nothing but general/basic information on forex trading. I still do not know how to actually start trading. In these respects, could I benefit from your courses?

The asker was inquiring specifically about my Essentials of Trading Course and Forex Trading Jump Start video. Let me answer this way.

The Forex Trading Jump Start video video is a one hour introduction to the forex market which covers all of the basics of the market and takes the viewer straight into trading via a demo account with a heavy hands-on orientation. It does not present any king of trading system, nor does it make recommendations on the methodology which should be used. Those are much larger discussions which cannot possibly be addressed in an introductory program.

In contrast, the Essentials of Trading Course is much broader in scope and way more comprehensive in scale. While it is quite suitable for forex trading, and many of the examples in it have that as their focus, it was intended to be applicable to trading any market. It’s intention is to take a new trader from zero or near zero knowledge and experience to the point of having a solid foundation upon which to pursue trading in a meaningful and effective fashion. There are 18 lectures covering about 9 hours of video content, plus something like 4 hours of audio, plus additional bonus materials. Actually, the Jump Start video is included.

The individual also asked “I am also wondering if I could order your courses via Lulu.com? If I order your courses from Lulu.com would I still get the course email account?”

The answer to both questions is yes. That said, however, in the case of the Essentials course, you would save money by ordering through this site as I cover the cost of your standard shipping for the DVD. Either way, it would still come from Lulu, as they fulfill all of my orders.

And one last question: Lastly, how would you compare your courses to those of Online Trading Academy?

I have never gone through any of the OTA courses. As such, I am not in any position to make a comparisson. Perhaps another reader would care to share their comments and/or experiences with them.

GO ARABS - To answer your question in one word, ABSOLUTELY! :-)

I designed my Essentials course to be ground up foundational. Since I had in mind college students when I was writing my book, which then became the basis for the course, I assumed no prior trading experience. That’s something very few, if any books on trading do, which I think is a major flaw in the system. Everyone is focusing two or more steps beyond, leaving beginners to fumble around at the introductory level. So I started with the most basic stuff (trade entry, orders, profit and loss calculation, prices, etc.) and the built up from there into the more complex subjects, right up to building and testing trading systems for yourself. The material is not forex specific, but much of the example material is from forex because it’s the easiest market for people with all kinds of work/school schedules to practice.

    Hope that answers your question.
