John Forman - The Essentials of Trading author

I was asked by J.D. at Get Rich Slowly to do a guest post in picking stocks. To be honest, I was a little worried about writing something for him that wasn’t either overly long or just barely touching on the subject since really it’s a big topic. I started working on the post over the weekend and quickly got to about 1500 words. That’s longer than most blog posts, but I passed it on to J.D. My thought was that he’d want to cut it back or focus more specifically in one area.

As it turns out, he really liked it as it was. We agreed on a few minor edits and the inclusion of some specific added resources over the last couple days. Today it’s on the site: Trading Stocks: How Do I Find Good Stocks?

Here are some other things worth checking out.

Bill at VIX and More put up a very informative post titled Ten Things Everyone Should Know About the VIX. Volatility is something I watch pretty closely in my own trading. Bill’s post will answer some of your questions on the so-called “fear index”.

I came across an online video of Jack Schwager talking at an FXCM conference (thanks to Trader’s Narrative). Schwager is always someone worth listening to based on his experience in the markets and his connection with so many great traders through the Market Wizards books he did. It strikes me as being very similar to the Winning Methods of the Market Wizards video I have myself. (Note: The online video just starts right up and has no controls, so you have to run it right through.)

If you watch/listen to the Schwager video you’ll understand exactly what I was talking about in my My First Major Lesson: Trade to Your Personality post.
