John Forman - The Essentials of Trading author

This is something I sent to my mailing list, but it makes sense to share here as well.

I’ve mentioned my volleyball coaching experience in some of my emails, on this site, and in other places along the way. In case you haven’t heard, I was involved in coaching and running college and youth volleyball programs from about 1998 to 2006.

At the end of 2006 I decided to dedicate myself mainly to the markets and gave up the volleyball (much to the joy of my feet, back, and shoulder). A short while later I also moved, taking me away being able to personally be involved at all, even in small ways. I still love the sport, though (if you’re a Penn State supporter, congrats on the men winning the NCAA title over the weekend and matching the women’s title from the fall). One day maybe I’ll get back involved once more. In the meantime, though, I want to continue to support the efforts of my former colleagues.

To that end, I would like to raise $100k to provide financial support to those organizations. It would go a long way in helping them out in their efforts.

Don’t worry. I’m not asking for a donation.

I don’t like that kind of thing. I’d much rather provide people with something they can use, preferably of value in excess of the payment amount. I have a great deal of knowledge and experience, and the ability to teach and present trading information. It makes sense to put that to use serving the cause.

What it boils down to is the question of what I could do which would be worth $100 to 1000 people, or $200 to 500 people, or some variation of that math which gets me to the target.

Can you offer any suggestions? I need your perspective. What subject or subjects trouble you most? What is something that would help you out? A course? A seminar? Videos?

Whatever it is, nothing would land in my pocket. I haven’t taken a cent from any of my education work in at least a year.

I have a generally tight schedule with my analyst job, but I’ll make something work if it makes sense toward the goal. That includes traveling and taking time out of work if that’s what it takes.

No suggestion is too crazy. I’ll consider anything. Let me know your thoughts.

I really appreciate it.
