John Forman - The Essentials of Trading author

A few years ago, on the back of some observations I had made in the action of EUR/JPY during part of the year, I decided to do a full study of the performance of the forex market from a seasonal perspective. I didn’t really expect to find much, but to my surprise I did find some very interesting patterns. That led me to create and publish a research report I titled Opportunities in Forex Calendar Trading Patterns. It ended up becoming quite popular.

A year after the first edition of the report I produced and update to it, adding in the new data. It’s a considerable amount of work, though, so I have not produced it since as I just haven’t had the time.

Recently, however, I have been contacted on several occassions regarding the availability of the report. That’s started me thinking that a new revised edition may be something traders would like to see. If so, I have some ideas for making it a better overall presentation than the heavily data table based approach previously employed. Like I said, though, it’s a lot of work, so I don’t want to take on the project if there isn’t sufficient interest to make it worthwhile.

That said, if you have an interest in a report on forex seasonal trading patterns (covering all majors and major crosses), please leave a comment below to let me know.

Thanks

I remember the data a long time back and found it intriguing and interesting. If you do do the hard work updating the report, I would like to be placed on the list.

Yes, I am still interested! I inquired about this report during the summer; only to be told that it was no longer in print. I was disappointed and am now happy to hear that you are considering printing a revised version. Please let me know when the new report is available. Thanks!

Indeed, that sounds wonderful. I’ve only been actively trading for the past six months and I find myself caught in the “there HAVE to be patterns I’m missing” headspace.

    Dear Mike Wilson,

I feel for your last comment and I highly recommend that you look into Elliott Wave Analysis. If you can afford it, there is someone called Stephen Story that does a brilliant course which I have completed part 1 of 3. It is expensive but very worth it. With what I learned, I feel confident enought to make money to earn my tuition to go through part 2 and 3 of 3. Please note I am not affiliated with this whatsoever and that I was simply a student. If you wish not to check it out, I still EXTREMELY recommend that you pick yourseld some material on Elliott Wave Theory and Fibonacci.

    Cheers from the UK!

If there’s really a pattern, I would love to learn from it. The recent economic crisis actually killed my hope for any sustainable “patterns” in price action. So yes, please let me know if you can dig up any material like that.

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi,

Yes, I would be interested in the report. I wasn’t able to get a copy of the first one so I can’t comment on that. I don’t know what factors you have in your database.
Whatever the factors, I need the correlations and the correlation coefficients even if they are zero. I would like to know more about the proposed report.

    Thanks
    Michael
