September Seasonal Market Patterns
There’s a great deal of talk in the markets these days about seasonal patterns, particularly in the stock market. Everywhere you turn the media is talking about how September is the worst month for stock market performance. I don’t have specific figures on that, but I’ll trust that it’s true given the sources who have stated it (like CNBC) are generally reliable. I can confirm that things get much more interesting in the fall once folks get back into full gear after the dog days of summer. And it’s not just the stock market, either.
I’ve done quite a bit of research on so-called seasonal patterns in the forex market. Actually, it’s probably better to call them calendar patterns since most traders seem to equate “seasonal” to things like commodities.
Regardless, there are definitely interesting things that happen in forex trading in September. For example, during its lifetime (going back to the original ECU) the Euro has risen in general terms 75% of the time during the month of September.
If you’re a forex trader knowing these patterns to could help you make great trades – or avoid bad ones. How much of a difference might that make in your performance?
These calendar patterns aren’t just monthly, though. They actually go all the way down to the daily level.
